Ancestry: Mexican Style

Sure, a relative is a relative. But none of this second cousin, once-removed nonsense. In Mexican-American culture, or at least in my dad’s family, all relations are simplified.

  • Siblings, parents, grandparents are all pretty straightforward.
  • Everyone else:
  1. your generation: cousin
  2. your parents’ generation or older, aunt or uncle
  3. your children’s generation or younger, niece or nephew

Done! Good luck figuring out how you’re actually related. JBS Haldane wouldn’t know where to lie down.
