Sure, a relative is a relative. But none of this second cousin, once-removed nonsense. In Mexican-American culture, or at least in my dad’s family, all relations are simplified.
- Siblings, parents, grandparents are all pretty straightforward.
- Everyone else:
- your generation: cousin
- your parents’ generation or older, aunt or uncle
- your children’s generation or younger, niece or nephew
Done! Good luck figuring out how you’re actually related. JBS Haldane wouldn’t know where to lie down.
